After a series of title victories in Germany in 2018, the motor sportsman steps up to the challenge Tristan Viidaswill take a step forward in his career in 2019 and will race for Team Black Falcon in a Mercedes-AMG GT4 at the Nürburgring in the VLN Endurance Championship and will once again compete in the VLN Endurance Championship. Nürburgring A 24-hour drive.
"After I was able to do a few stages in the Nordschelifel in 2016 and 2017, I decided to dedicate myself fully to the Green Hell in 2018," said Viidas. "Last year, everything went perfectly with the BMW M235 and I managed to become the German VLN Champion in the CUP5 class and also the Junior Champion of the whole series! In addition, I won the world-famous Nürburgring 24 Hours with my teammates. That's why I decided that now was the right time to take a step towards real GT machines. The only thing that had changed was that, whereas before I had to look for a place in the teams myself, after a successful season I received offers from teams using BMW, Porsche and Mercedes.
The German team Team Black Falcon, which has been part of the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing programme since 2010, offered the Estonian a contract without any testing. However, Viidas decided to familiarise himself with both the car and the team before signing, and after two extremely successful tests at the Portimao circuit in Portugal, a mutually satisfactory contract was signed. "The AMG GT4 felt like a totally unreal machine! When I got in the car, I knew that I wanted to race in this machine. I also felt that the car suited me, as I passed on the speed of several experienced factory drivers who had contributed to the development of the car," said a satisfied Viidas. "The Black Falcon showed professionalism and a high level of motivation to bring home a number of titles in the new season. My motivation is also high!"
The Mercedes-AMG GT4 is largely based on the flagship GT car - the GT3. The GT4 has electronically limited power and is powered by a 4-litre V8 bi-turbo engine. The weight is reduced to 1400 kilograms by a number of carbon fibre body panels. The AMG GT4 will take on other GT4 class machines in the SP10 class such as the BMW M4, Audi R8, Porsche Cayman, McLaren 570S and many others.
The VLN Endurance Series takes place exclusively in Germany, on the world's only Nordschelife circuit, with 24 kilometres of the track winding through the Black Forest. This is why the track is called the Green Hell. The series consists of nine stages, with around 150 different cars racing on the track at any one time. Each stage usually lasts 4 hours and the cars are shared with teammates. In addition to the nine races of the VLN series, the Nürburgring 6-hour qualifying race and, of course, the infamous Nürburgring 24-hour race also take place on the same circuit.
