The joint Estonian-Finnish WRC stage organised last season at the auto24ring near Pärnu, Audru municipality, was voted the best Finnish WRC stage of 2014. The trophy was presented last Saturday at the Finnish Motorsport Annual Meeting in Jyväskylä.
This is another great recognition for Estonian motorsport and the organisers of motorsport events, as receiving such an award in Finland, where the level of competitions is high, is a testimony to good work.
Cooperation between the Finnish and Estonian Automobile Sport Associations has been going on for years, with Estonians holding their championship round in Finland and vice versa, class by class. However, last year's Grand Prix 2014 at the end of June at the auto24ring was the biggest Finnish WRC championship round in Estonia so far, with most of the Finnish series classes present. The thousands of people who came to the auto24ring not only enjoyed exciting races, but also a great all-round entertainment and concerts on Saturday featuring Getter Jaani, Hellad Velled and French disco band Ottawan.
"The best stage of the Finnish WRC championship, such a recognition is a very big thing for us, especially considering the high level of organisation of the Finnish championships. Our aim was to bring people who are not directly fans of motorsport to the track, offering them a variety of entertainment. This family-oriented approach worked and there was something for everyone in the family. I would like to thank all our team who worked hard and well to make the 2014 Grand Prix a success. The Grand Prix 2015 will take place on 26-28 June and will again this year be a round of the Finnish Motor Racing Championship in cooperation with our northern neighbours. Due to the success of last year's event, this year's Auto24ring will see even more Finnish competitors in different classes. And we certainly can't lower the bar in terms of organisation, the aim is to keep this prestigious touring cup in Estonia," said Toivo Asmer, the main organiser of the Grand Prix.
The challenge cup for the best stage of the Finnish WRC was awarded by Koiranen GP team manager Marko Koiranen, an important trophy for Estonians. It is the winner's cup of the last race of the 2010 World Series by Renault Eurocup 2.0 season for Kevin Korjus. Korjus drove for the Koiranen GP team this year and was also the series winner in 2010.
